Today, an article about my work appeared on NIVOZ. In the piece, Rob van der Poel articulated my philosophy on education beautifully. I was able to contribute and am grateful that the pedagogical undercurrent is becoming increasingly visible in education.
NIVOZ describes The Compassionate School as:
“A form of education that focuses not only on what is visible, but that first makes room for what is happening beneath and within it.”
That is exactly what my work is about: guiding teachers, parents, and leaders in inner strength so that you can become a warm and loving role model for children.
First human, then professional
The article is about the movement that, in my view, is needed in schools: the shift from ‘doing’ to ‘being’.
- From following protocols to being truly present.
- From mandatory training to inner training - as a gift your school leader is granting you.
- From reacting immediately to gently checking your reflexes and assumptions. After all, you are a human being first and only then a professional - it is precisely in that order that you may open up the space where inspring new talents await you. When adults share their essence with children, something emerges that no teaching method can replace: a genuine pedagogical heart-to-heart connection.

A moment of reflection
Sometimes it is enough to pause for a moment to reflect on what is already there. This article is intended as such a moment of rest. I hope it inspires you on your own pedagogical journey - in the space where your humanity and your professionalism meet.
